Hospital Admissions are Down ER Doctors are Fired Texas Medical Association

Friday, April 10th, 2009

After watching this video, is the pressure mounting to the point to where we might be having to look at
“creative admissions”?
It sounds like the physicians here were put into a Catch 22 position, as when the business intelligence reports were analyzed, the group was then told some of their admissions were not required, so a new group was brought in to do a better job?  There have been recent stories in the news where some hospitals (more…)

Patient Dumping Back in the News Hospital to Pay fine

Friday, April 10th, 2009

One more hospital pays a fine for this practice, but one of the most disturbing items in this article is the fact that the City Attorney’s office continues receiving reports that the practice of dumping patients is still being reported, so it leads one to think the problem has not been solved and there may still be some isolated cases still occurring.
If so, with all the cameras we have now to record potential cases, it would appear it may (more…)

Ottawa Regional Hospital and Healthcare Center Selects Allscripts – Chicago

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

Now that the merger is done, we can somewhat say goodbye to Misys, the name we knew for years as it is now Allscripts.
Allscripts also provides the free e-prescribing initiative for any physician wanted to get started with free e-prescribing and a permanent link is always on the site here.
This is another example of hospitals and physicians getting connected and medical records and staff being able to communicate with each other for better (more…)

Friday, March 27th, 2009

The center will offer 9 tests initially and will grow to 50 by year end.  The article stated there are over 2000 currently available, but the hospital is selectively working to find the tests that will best benefit diagnosis and treatments for their patients.  The number of tests is continuing to grow as the field of genomics is rapidly evolving and new breakthroughs in research are almost in the news every week.  The counseling service will be (more…)

Physician claims charts were doctored in the Medical Records System at the Hospital

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

This is an interesting story here with the doctor challenging the hospital and it sounds like all were perhaps not getting along well, but the part about the hospital allegedly changing any patient records is very strange.  It sounds like an electronic records system is in place, so the good
will tell the story.  Some companies and hospitals, to ensure that everyone is in fact honest have
as well, so even if someone in IT even thought about (more…)

Stuffing Paper Hospital Gowns in Gloves helping reduce the spread of MRSA

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

When you stop and think about the doctor stuffing the gown into the rubber gloves, it makes sense, even though they are going to end up in the same place, the trash, but less exposure over all and someone has to take out the trash too.  Anyone who was treating a MRSA patient was required to wear gloves and the paper gown, but it was still continuing to spread anyway.  Washing hands is of course right up there too, but this one simple technique seems (more…)
